OTTIAQ AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE

(formerly the “Mary-Coppin-OTTIAQ Award”)

The OTTIAQ Award for Excellence is awarded to a student graduating from a university whose translation program is recognized by the Order.

This award consists of a $500 reimbursement of all fees related to the mentorship program once it has been successfully completed.

Criteria:

Student with the highest grade point average, nominated by the university, and demonstrating interest in the award by writing a 400 to 500 word text on one of the following themes:

  1. What are your expectations of the mentorship program?
  2. Translation in 20XX (current year).
  3. If you have completed a translation internship, what did you learn?
  4. How do you see the social role of the translator?

Universities must base their initial decision on grade point average. In the event of a tie, they must use criteria such as student motivation, involvement, and determination.

Mary-Coppin OTTIAQ Award Archives

Up until 1998, the year the certification examination was discontinued, the Mary Coppin Award was presented to the candidates with the highest mark on the CTTIC certification examinations into each official language. The award was then redesigned and became the Mary CoppinOTTIAQ Award. Since 2002, OTTIAQ has invited each university with a recognized translation program to nominate one outstanding student. A jury then selects the winner from among the nominations received.

Criteria

  • One nominee, Francophone or Anglophone, per university
  • Undergraduate level only
  • Highest grade point average

This award consists of registration to attend OTTIAQ’s annual conference and a one-year student membership in OTTIAQ.

Criteria:

The student with the highest grade point average in his/her cohort after completing the first 45 credits of a recognized translation program, so long as the student is enrolled to continue the program.
